Hello, this is Mark with United Services. We’re off 111th and Prairie Hill Drive. We’re going to be doing a paint job on this customer’s house. As you can see it’s very, very rough. If you come a little bit closer you can see there’s a lot of damage over the years from hail damage to chipping and peeling. Some of the nails, we will go on the other side and show you the rusted nails. What my what I’m going to do is prep all the walls to make sure no paint gets anywhere but the walls. It’s aluminum soffit and fascia so all we’re doing is just the walls only. There’s a new paint out, it’s a primer called Rejuvenate so I’m going to do one coat of Rejuvenate in the Iron Gray. It’s a James Hardie Sherwin Williams color. It’s a very thick primer that covers blemishes like this right here, a little of the hail damage. It will cover it up and it will basically seal the cedar boards. Once I do one coat of Rejuvenate I’m going to come back with another coat of paint which will be the Super Paint. I’ll do a second coat, so it’s going to be coated twice with a primer and a paint. I’ll show you the results after I’m done. On this side you can see a lot of rusted nails from a long, long time ago. This house is maybe from the 1960’s.This will also help with the Rejuvenate to seal that in so the rust won’t bleed through anymore. So what we’re going to do again is the entire walls put Rejuvenate on. It’s basically, I’m going to be doing close to 10 gallons of Rejuvenate compared to 5 gallons of paint because it has to come on very, very thick. Again, it covers all the blemishes and all the faults in the actual cedar planks. Then again we will paint with the Super Paint on the rest of the house.

It could be that all of the surface wood is starting to rot or perhaps that the home itself has been compromised by moisture, mold, pests, or other invaders. By painting over the issue, you are only masking the true cause of why the wood is rotting.
Termites: Another reason why the wood may be rotted is termites, particularly if the damage is occurring in the lower sections of your home. Termites invade the wood for food and will find ways out even when you use paint. The wood needs to be removed because it may harbor termites that will invade other areas of your home.
Protection: Rotted wood is not only falling apart, it has lost a considerable amount of its inherent strength and resistance to the elements. Even with new exterior paint, it is much easier for the elements to break through the wood and compromise your home. High winds, hail, sleet, and even rain can penetrate and break through rotting wood that has been painted.

Light Reflective Value (LRV) measures the amount of visible and usable light that reflects from (or absorbs) a painted surface. The LRV can be found on the back of every paint chip. The scale goes from 0 – 100 (absorbs all light – reflects all light).
Tip #6: Once you have an idea for the color scheme you’re striving for, try the paint colors you picked on the painting visualizer on our website.
Tip #7: Now that you have an idea of what the colors will be, grab some paint samples to paint a small area of the exterior of your home.
